São Luiz’s medical director, Ruy G. Bevilacqua, M.D., is a physician, professor and doctor, and is a graduate of the School of Medicine, University of São Paulo (USP) with a doctorate in Mathematics and Statistics from the Department of Statistics, School of Public Hygiene and Health, University of São Paulo.
He took part professionally, between 1970 and 1972, in the team organized by Hewlett-Packard and the Harvard Medical School that was responsible for developing software to monitor and assist patients in intensive care units. Then he worked as a professor until 1981, teaching Surgery at the School of Medical Sciences in Santos. He was a two-time invited investigator at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA, between 1988/1989 and in September/October, 1992.
He attended the Program for Chiefs of Clinical Services at the Harvard University School of Public Health in 1997. He was an intern coordinator from 2000 to 2001 at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, and he was hired as an advisor at São Camilo in 2003, in the Medical Quality Department. He has published 166 studies in academic journals, 70 book chapters and 5 books in the medical field to date.
In addition to a Corporate Medical Director, each unit has a medical director and one medical coordinator in charge of specific areas in the hospital, recognized for their competence in the Management of Health Services. This team supervises and controls the activities of the medical practice performed by members of the clinical staff who have been selected in compliance with strict principles favouring professional competence, as well as their school activities and scientific publications. Therefore, São Luiz ensures a first-class clinical staff, recognized by the medical community and the public in general.
